When you get up in the morning and still the thought lingers in your mind about the movie you saw a day before, this means director was successful in conveying what he wanted to say. And for me it was Sushant Singh Rajput’s performance in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che which I couldn’t get off my mind. Here was an actor who till last year was ruling the TRPs on the 9pm slot with his role of Manav in Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV and today has successfully made a transition on big screen. He already has 3 films in his kitty including Rajkumar Hirani’s P.K. and a YRF untitled with Parineeti Chopra.
Till few years back, TV actors were not considered good enough to star in a film. But things have turned around; Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor are perfect examples of how TV can be a ticket to silver screen. Ronit Roy failed in his first attempt in films, went to TV, resurrected himself and came back stronger in films, just watch Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan and you’ll know what I mean. It was Ekta kapoor’s Bade Ache lagte hain which did the trick for Ram Kapoor, though he too made his presence felt in Udaan. Both of them were last seen together in Karan Johar’s Student Of the Year.
Coming back to Sushant, he did dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja with his now fiancée Ankita Lokhande and it was this show which made people sit up and notice. Small town boy Rajiv Khandelwal started with a daily sop “Kahin to Hoga” on Star Plus, and today he is an actor to reckon with, his last film Table No. 21 was a hit. Ayushmann Khurana was the most wanted anchor on TV and now he is nothing but Vicky Donor. Vidya Balan’s Kahaani started as the fat spectacled sister on Ekta Kapoor’s Hum Paanch.
Look at the dancer-actors in Remo D Souza’s ABCD; Dharmesh, Salman, Prince, Puneet and Mayur, till yesterday they were just another contestant/winners of a reality show (Dance India Dance Season 1 & 2), but now their film is going to cross 50 crore rupees mark at Box-Office. Zee TV’s Dance India Dance has to be one talent based show after Sa re ga ma pa which seriously made difference in lives of their participants.
Parallel Cinema actors such as Pankaj Kapur (Office Office) and Irrfan Khan (STAR Bestsellers) too had a successful stint on TV. And how can one not mention Superstar Shahrukh Khan, who made his debut on DD National’s serial Fauji. When Big B went bankrupt, it was a game show on TV which revived his career and people started writing roles for him. These days, even Salman Khan makes big money through small screen.
Sushant Singh Rajput looks promising, watch him perform in Kai Po Che, there is earnestness in his eyes to make it big, in the same way as Rajeev Khandelwal had shown in Aamir.
